Column 63

Since they have moved all of the death row prisoners from San Quentin and put us in various prisons around the state, I will continue to write about regular prison life. I don't know if regular prison life ls interesting, to you, but it is what my life is about now, and I will continue to write about different parts of prison life since that is my experience for the present time. Here is number 63 for you to check out.
-------------------------------------

March 6th and 7th was the 2nd annual California Health Care Facility Re- Entry/Resource Fair. The Falr took place ln the Old Visiting Room and by most accounts vas a great success.

There were over 25 Groups and Organizations represented at the Fair. Many from inside the prison, but there was also a good showing of outside organizations as well. Participation by the prison population was very high and many people left with information that could very well be helpful to them as they transition from prison to the free world.

The CHCF Nursing Department had a strong presence as did the CHCF Mental Health Department. The various prison Group Programs were present and helpful in answering questions.

Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) as well as AA and NA were there reaching out to the prison population. As was the CHCF Jack Tone Adult School Education Department. The Friends Outside 0rganiration had a table to explain their function and services. The Veterans Group had representatives there to inform and help any Military Veterans that might need assistance both in prison and when they are released. CHCF Religious Services also had a table to aid those who were curious about what is offered by the prison Chaplains. Also, Community Resources had an information booth to help and inform anyone in need of their services. Among the outside groups participating in the Re-Entry/Resource Falr were Prevail and Stay Out Solutions, Center Point Inc. was there to inform and help those who might need their services. Legacy Alliance Outreach had a table and were very helpful explaining what they have to offer. The Central Valley Gender Health & Wellness was there to provide information and guidance for anyone who might need help and information for the LGBTQIA prison population. The California Coalition for Women Prisoners had a table with Kelly providing help and information for the LWOP and Condemned prisoners. In the evening of March 6th, Kelly also gave a presentation to many LWOP and Condemned prisoners. Her presentation was very informative about applying for the commutation of LWOP and Death Sentences.

0n the second day of the Fair, former Warden Gena Jones, now the Director of Adult Institutions for CDCR made an appearance. She and current CHCF Warden Kathleen Ratliff visited the various booths and spent time speaking with some in the prison population, as well as representatives of some of the organizations participating in the Fair. They were accompanied by many of the other officials of the prison administration.

All in all, the Re-Entry/Resource Falr was considered to be a great success and was attended by the majorly of the prison population. It would be too much to try and profile all the groups and organizations that made the Falr such a successful event, so look for more individual profiles and information of these various groups and organizations in future issues of The Voice.
